On the first day of Paris fashion week and with three days to go until the Dior fashion show, leading fashion house Christian Dior fire its creative director and designer John Galliano.
British designer, John Galliano which had been working for the Dior house for 15 years had been suspended by Dior for being arrested last thursday for racist behaviour and casting anti-semitic slurs upon a couple.
However, yesterday a video of Galliano became public from december in a bar in Paris in which the designer said “I love Hitler, and people like you would be dead today. Your mothers, your forefathers, would be all gassed and dead”, in which he was referring to two italian women that he was talking to.
After the video was made public Dior fired Galliano immediately.
Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman which had recently signed a contract with Dior to promote a perfume was disgusted with Galliano’s attitude therefore made an appeal to Dior to fire him, she said “As an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr Galliano in any way.”
Now with Galliano gone many people are suspicious of who will take over and whether the show due this friday will go on but according to a spokesperson for Dior, it was stated that for now the show has not been cancelled.
Worries over Dior’s international reputation has also been questioned but let’s hope the fashion house doesn’t suffer because of Galliano’s attitude. I don’t think he will be missed by the public.
